Canterbury Christ Church University is a public university that was originally established in 1962 as a comprehensive teacher training institute but was later given the status of a university in 2005. The institution was originally set up as the Canterbury Christ Church College in response to the national shortage of teachers and was later awarded degree-granting powers in 1995. It was in the year 2005 that CCCU obtained university status. In 2009, the Privy Council awarded CCCU the authority to award research degrees. The University has affiliations with the Cathedrals Group, Million Plus and the Universities of Medway. According to the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings 2022, Canterbury Christ Church University ranks in the bracket #1001-1200.
Canterbury Christ Church University has three campuses in total, out of which its main campus is located in North Holmes in Canterbury. The university is famous for offering undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral programs in a wide range of disciplines.
