NYIT, also known as New York Tech, was founded in 1955 as a private research university. With a primary focus on technology and applied scientific research, it boasts two main campuses located in Old Westbury on Long Island and in Manhattan, New York. In addition, it has campuses in Arkansas, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Canada, along with a cybersecurity research facility and a biosciences and bioengineering lab on its Old Westbury campus. The Computer Graphics Lab at NYIT holds particular significance in the history of computer graphics and animation, as it is where both Pixar and Lucasfilm conducted their pioneering research. The university is comprised of five schools and two colleges, which include the School of Architecture and Design, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education, School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, School of Health Professions, School of Management, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Osteopathic Medicine. Undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees are offered across these various schools and colleges. Currently, NYIT offers five PhD programs, with plans to introduce more in the near future. Notably, it is also the birthplace of entirely 3D computer-generated imagery (CGI) films. As of 2020, NYIT is connected to two Turing Award winners.
