RMIT University, officially referred to as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, was founded in 1887 by Francis Ormond as a night school that offered classes in Art, Science and Technology in response to the industrial revolution in Australia. It was a private college for more than a century before merging with the Phillips Institute of Technology in 1992 to become the public university it is today. The university was established based on 6 core values i.e., Inclusion, Agility, Courage, Imagination, Passion, and Impact. The colleges that are affiliated with RMIT University include International House, Janet Clarke Hall, Newman College, Queen's College, St Mary's College, University College and Whitley College.
