The University of Wisconsin-Madison was the first university that was created by the state constitution in 1848 under what is now the University of Wisconsin System. Considered America's Public Ivy for its capability to provide a collegiate experience similar to that of an Ivy league, UW- Madison is a Doctoral University that focuses on research. The University is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin System which includes 13 universities across 26 campuses. The campus located in Madison is spread across 933 acres with the area increasing to 10,600 acres if the research institutes are taken into consideration.
