Eligibility of Yale University

At Yale University, applicants must obtain test scores within the range of 25th to 75th percentiles in the following exams: SAT Reading & Writing Test (720 - 780) and SAT Mathematics Test (740 - 800), as well as the ACT Composite (33-35). While there are no set score cut-offs, the university values academic performance more than standardized testing. A solid performance in a rigorous college preparatory program can offset low standardized test scores, but excellent test scores alone may not compensate for a mediocre high school record. In addition, non-native English speakers who have not completed at least two years of secondary education in an English-language curriculum must take an English proficiency test. Yale accepts TOEFL scores of 100 or higher on the internet-based test, with at least 25 on each of the three sections of the paper-and-pencil TOEFL Paper-delivered Test. Alternatively, applicants can submit IELTS scores of 7 or higher, or PTE scores of 70 or higher, or DET scores of at least 120.
