The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the most common English language test which is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English. It will assess the ability to listen, read, write and speak in English and is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language. IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9. Some major countries that accept IELTS are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and USA. Within a span of 3 hours, the assesses listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills are tested. Academic and General Training are the two types of IELTS.
English being the third most spoken language in the world, with 379 million speakers worldwide, it is essential to have a good grasp over the language. The preparation duration is subjective and dependent on current ability and what score the student needs to achieve. An average student aiming for a 6.5 overall may need to do more work than an individual who is proficient in English and requires a higher score. However it is ideal to spend at least 6-8 weeks preparing for the IELTS exam with special focus on basic grammar, reading speed, test strategies and writing skills.

Information:
The test is split into two tasks, both with topics of mass interest. Only formal style responses are acceptable. The first task is a description of statistical data presented as a graph, diagram, table or chart. The second task is an essay in response to an argument, point of view or problem.

The candidate will be provided with four recordings of native English Speakers followed by a series of questions. The ability to understand the central theme, detailed factual information, attitudes and opinions of the speaker, evidence collection and development of ideas will be tested.

As the name suggests, the key concept of the test is to evaluate a wide range of reading skills of the candidate. This includes reading of main ideas with details, skimming, gists, recognition of the writer’s attitudes, opinions, purpose and understanding logical arguments.

Information:
The questions are split into 3 sections. The first section being general questions to be answered on familiar topics such as work, academics, interest and family. The second section includes talking on a particular topic basis a card picked. Followed by the third section which will be questions related to the second section’s answer.

A total of 48 fixed test dates are available in one calendar year or 4 times in a month. The availability of IELTS dates in India may differ for the academic and general training module
The exam is offered across 50+ cities in India. There is no admit card provision for the same.
The candidate will receive only ONE original Test Report Form (TRF). For paper based, results are released 13 calendar days after the test and for computer based 5-7 calendar days later.
A candidate may request up to 5 additional TRFs to be sent to receiving Institutions(Universities, professional bodies, etc) within 1 month of taking the exam.

Based on the British Council standards, 9 represents “expert”, 8 signifies “very good” and so on.
The validity of IELTS results is two years from the result declaration date. However, it is also dependent on the organization to set their validity for different purposes.
Based on requirements, Individual organizations recognize different IELTS tests. It is essential to be aware of the version to take while filling the online application form.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts. The test can be taken multiple times for score improvement.
